This weekend saw the start of the 2018/19 season, and what a start it was. Not a lot changed for Manchester City as they displayed a masterclass in football to beat Arsenal 2-0 and two of the big spenders in the summer - Wolves and Fulham - were evenly matched in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
We focused on which team impressed us the most in game week one, and it’s hardly surprising - Liverpool. The Reds began exactly where they left off last season by beating West Ham 4-0. Goals came from Salah and two from Mane. Daniel Sturridge was able to end his return to the first team with a goal in the 88th minute. The man who impressed us here at ESA the most, however, was veteran, James Milner. The 32 year old completed 102 passes in the match - nearly 1/6th of all Liverpool’s passes. The midfield maestro was able to control the game and help the team take 1st place in the table after the opening fixtures.
A longer break between fixtures for Liverpool as they wait until Monday to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
